St. Joseph's Centre of Hope for Women (“the Centre”, “we”, “us”) is a faith-based, non-profit organisation operating in Ontario, Canada. We can be reached at help@sjcentre.ca or 416-672-0144. Our registered mailing address and charitable registration number are available on request.
2. Using this website
The site is provided for information about our mission, services, and ways to support our work. You may use it for personal, non-commercial purposes. We aim to keep the information accurate and current, but we make no guarantee that every page is free of errors or that the site will always be available.
3. Not medical, legal, or professional advice
Nothing on this website is medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice, and reading it does not create a counselling or client relationship. Our peer support and counselling services are offered as pastoral and practical support, not as a substitute for care from a licensed physician, therapist, or lawyer.

4. Appointments, counselling & programmes
Requests submitted through our forms are requests, not confirmed bookings. A team member will contact you to confirm availability. We may decline or discontinue a service where we are unable to serve a need safely or appropriately, and we will try to refer you elsewhere when that happens. Please give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel so the time can be offered to someone else.
5. Donations & payments
All donations are voluntary gifts in Canadian dollars (CAD) and are used to further the Centre's charitable mission. Unless you designate a specific programme and we confirm it in writing, donations are unrestricted and applied where the need is greatest.
Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor over an encrypted connection. We never see or store your full card number, expiry, or security code. By donating you confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method and that the funds are lawfully yours.
A donation is complete only when the processor authorises it. Declined, reversed, or charged-back transactions may be cancelled, and the corresponding tax receipt voided.
6. Monthly giving
If you choose a monthly gift, you authorise us to charge your payment method the amount you selected on the same day each month until you cancel. You may change the amount or cancel at any time by emailing help@sjcentre.ca or calling 416-672-0144 — no reason needed, no fee. Please allow up to three business days before your next scheduled charge so the change can take effect.
If a monthly payment fails, we may retry it and will email you so the details can be updated. Repeated failures will pause the recurring gift.
7. Refunds & tax receipts
Because donations are gifts, they are generally non-refundable. We do, however, want every gift to be one you intended: if you made an error in the amount, were charged twice, or gave in error, contact us within 30 days and we will refund the transaction to the original payment method wherever possible.
Official receipts for income tax purposes are issued for eligible gifts in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency rules and emailed to the address you provide. If a receipt has already been issued and the gift is refunded, the receipt is void and must not be claimed.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to submit false or misleading information, use another person's identity or payment method, attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the site, scrape or harvest contact details, or use our forms to send unsolicited, abusive, or unlawful material. We may block access and report unlawful activity.
9. Intellectual property
The Centre's name, logo, text, photographs, and design are owned by us or used with permission and are protected by copyright and trade-mark law. You may share links and quote short excerpts with attribution. Any other reproduction, adaptation, or commercial use requires our written consent. Testimonies and images of the people we serve may not be reused in any form.
10. Third-party services & links
We rely on trusted third parties for payment processing, email delivery, donor records, and site hosting, and we link to external resources we believe are helpful. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.
11. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
The site and its content are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Centre and its directors, staff, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount of the donation or payment giving rise to it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you agree to raise any concern with us directly first so we can try to resolve it.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as our programmes or legal obligations change. The revised version takes effect when posted, with a new “last updated” date. Material changes affecting monthly donors will be emailed in advance.
